The Narrative

The Soul of the Object

This breathtaking ceramic charger is a masterpiece of Moroccan craftsmanship, hailing from the historic pottery center of Safi. It represents a unique fusion of traditional ceramic techniques with an opulent metallic aesthetic. The entire surface is a canvas of intricate detail, dominated by a rich, golden metallic finish that has been painstakingly hand-engraved with dense, swirling arabesque motifs, giving it the appearance of gilded metalwork rather than painted clay.

Radiating from the center is a striking starburst design featuring eight petal-like panels. Each panel contrasts beautifully with the golden background, showcasing a crisp white glaze adorned with a black geometric grid pattern. Embedded within these grids are vibrant, jewel-like enamel dots in turquoise and deep blue, adding a touch of regal color. The platter is framed by a complex rim featuring a dark blue band with white dots and a final outer edge of metallic beading, completing the lavish design.

Created by master artisan Maalem Ahmed El Idrissi, this piece is the result of dozens of hours of meticulous labor, from throwing the clay to the multi-stage firing, painting, and engraving processes. It is a versatile statement piece, substantial enough to serve as a communal platter for couscous or tagine on festive occasions, yet too exquisite to be hidden away, making it an ideal work of wall art that embodies the soul of Moroccan decor.

"Every imperfection tells a story of human hands at work."
