The Narrative

The Soul of the Object

This magnificent floor urn is a masterpiece of Fassi ceramic art, standing as a testament to centuries of Moroccan craftsmanship. Hand-thrown from local clay, its imposing form is adorned with a complex interplay of traditional designs. The central band features raised, embossed Arabic calligraphy, likely showering blessings upon the home, finished with a striking metallic silver glaze that catches the light. Surrounding this are panels of lush, hand-painted floral and vegetal motifs in classic deep blues, turquoises, and rich reds against a creamy background. The creation of such a piece is a labor-intensive process involving multiple artisans. After the large form is thrown and dried, skilled painters apply the intricate polychrome patterns. The relief work, known as 'nqouch', is then painstakingly added by hand before the final metallic and protective glazes are applied and fired in traditional kilns. This urn is not merely a decorative object but a piece of history and culture, perfect for making a grand statement in an entryway, living hall, or covered patio.

"Every imperfection tells a story of human hands at work."
