The Narrative

The Soul of the Object

This spectacular wall charger is a masterpiece of Fassi craftsmanship, born from the ancient workshops of Fez. It presents a stunning interplay of textures and materials, featuring a robust brass foundation that has been meticulously hand-hammered and engraved with intricate floral and geometric arabesques. The gleaming metalwork frames five distinct fields of rich, glossy teal enamel—a large central medallion surrounded by four orbiting circles—creating a captivating contrast that evokes the vibrant hues of a Moroccan oasis against desert sands.

The technique employed is a complex fusion of metalworking and enameling. The artisan, a 'Maalem' or master, first shapes the brass platter, then painstakingly chases and repousses the surface to create the raised patterns and studs. The enamel is then applied into the recessed areas and fired, resulting in a durable, jewel-like finish. The brass is often selectively silver-plated to add further depth and brilliance to the design.

Traditionally inspired by large communal serving platters used for celebratory feasts, this piece is elevated into a singular work of decorative art intended for display. Hung on a wall, it acts as a radiant focal point, reflecting light from its metallic surfaces and drawing the eye with its deep, saturated colors. It is a tangible piece of Moroccan heritage, symbolizing hospitality, artistry, and the timeless beauty of Islamic design.

"Every imperfection tells a story of human hands at work."
