The Narrative

The Soul of the Object

This exquisite tabletop is a testament to the enduring legacy of Moroccan stone craftsmanship. Meticulously hand-assembled from cool white marble with delicate grey veining and contrasting deep green serpentine marble, both sourced from the mineral-rich heart of the Atlas Mountains. The central field is a classic eight-by-eight checkerboard, a design that has invited strategic contemplation for centuries in the riads and gardens of Marrakech.

The central game board is framed by a striking border of alternating diamond-shaped tesserae, a geometric motif common in Moorish architecture, symbolizing protection and infinity. Each piece of stone is individually hand-cut and fitted by a master artisan, or 'Maallem', using techniques passed down through generations, adapting the precision of ceramic Zellige to the more demanding medium of solid stone.

Polished to a smooth, lustrous finish, this tabletop is not merely furniture but a functional work of art. It is ready to be placed on a wrought-iron or wooden base, becoming the centerpiece of a salon, library, or a shaded terrace. Due to the natural origins of the marble, the veining patterns and color variations are unique to each piece, ensuring that no two tables are exactly alike.

"Every imperfection tells a story of human hands at work."
